Choose a route for the service you can deliver. A marketplace with many users is not necessarily a useful source of briefs for your skill, location or available hours. This comparison separates published charges from questions you must check in your own account.
Five routes, five different checks
The following source snapshot was checked on 23 October 2026. It describes selected charges, not the total cost of every transaction or confirmation that every Pakistan-based applicant will be accepted.

Read Upwork's Connects explanation, Freelancer's fee schedule and PeoplePerHour's service fees beside your account terms. Freelancer also lists a standard USD 20 available balance before bidding, with higher requirements possible in specified cases. A balance requirement and a project fee are different costs to plan for.
Why the minimum fee matters on a small project
On a fictional USD 20 fixed-price Freelancer project, 10% is USD 2, so the USD 5 minimum is larger. USD 15 remains before other charges. On USD 200, 10% is USD 20, leaving USD 180. The fixed-price minimum does not belong in the hourly calculation.
PeoplePerHour's bands depend on billing with each buyer. Work for several unrelated buyers does not automatically move a new buyer into a lower band. Its page also lists a GBP 1 minimum service fee per invoice, excluding VAT. For an invoice crossing a band, use the provider's calculation rather than applying the final percentage to the whole amount.
Check Pakistan eligibility without guessing
For each candidate route, record residence support, accepted identity information, account approval requirements, withdrawal methods visible to you, currency, minimum withdrawal and charges. Leave unanswered items marked “unverified.” A provider's global marketing page does not establish the exact options on your account.
If a job is restricted to a different country, skip it unless the provider confirms you qualify. A badge, foreign phone number or borrowed identity does not change where you are actually eligible to work. Never purchase an account to avoid a restriction.
Run a small comparison for one service
Download the platform comparison worksheet. Review five suitable public briefs on each of two routes. This is a manageable research exercise, not a statistically representative sample. Record the deliverable, missing input, required tools, deadline, visible location rule, application cost and whether your sample fits.
For spreadsheet cleanup, an offer with a usable sample file and a clear output may be easier to evaluate than a high advertised budget with no row count. For video work, inspect required effects and rights before treating a budget as attractive. Keep private messages out of a public comparison sheet.
Choose a limit and review the evidence
Set a time and spending limit you can afford without a return. Apply only to briefs that fit the same defined service, and record replies, interviews and paid work separately. Five applications with no response do not prove a platform is useless; five irrelevant applications do not test your service at all.
Once you have a completed payment, use collected income after charges divided by all project hours to evaluate that work. Keep currencies consistent.
